Your Learning Strategy is Only as Strong as Your Capacity
L&D’s real bottleneck isn’t strategy or ideas — it’s execution capacity: the ability to reliably design, build, localize, and deploy training at business speed. Leaders often misdiagnose this as a talent or tool problem, but overloaded teams and broken handoffs (SME reviews, translation delays, vague requirements) cause most bottlenecks. Data shows growing skill gaps and workaround use, signaling risk. L&D should treat itself as a production operation, tracking metrics like queue age and cycle time, and design flexible capacity using three models: reserved capacity for recurring work, surge capacity for fixed-date launches, and embedded specialists for role gaps — while keeping strategic judgment in-house.
Be honest: how many training requests from last quarter are still sitting in your queue?
